City of Meridian proposes community gathering place on downtown street

The Ada County Highway District is assisting the City of Meridian in repurposing a portion of a downtown street to encourage more pedestrian activity.

Representatives from the City of Meridian presented their concept to the ACHD Board of Commissioners at the weekly commission meeting Wednesday, Jan. 20.

The City and the Meridian Development Corporation want to rebuild East 2nd Street between Idaho Avenue and Broadway Avenue to create a community gathering place. The idea is to have something similar Boiseโ€™s 8th Street or Basque Block, but that is unique to Meridian.

Currently, this is just a discussion. There are no plans or designs at this time. The City of Meridian wanted to ensure the ACHD Commission supported the idea before moving on. The next steps are to continue meeting with stakeholders and begin public outreach.
