ACHD 2019 Accomplishments

The Ada County Highway District saw much success in 2019. From external projects to internal achievements, from prestigious awards to important innovations, ACHD produced results that got attention the entire year.

We:

  • Completed three major Cloverdale expansion projects
  • Completed the critical Cole, I-84 to Franklin widening project
  • Completed $3.4 million in pedestrian and bicycle improvements
  • Instituted the ACHD blog
  • Brought the Road Wizard in-house—saved the District $50,000 annually
  • Implemented promotional events to help during construction
  • Implemented a new countywide operations strategy for enhanced preventative operations
  • Chip sealed 421 lane miles in 38 working days
  • Replaced 5,324 linear feet of sidewalk and updated 43 pedestrian ramps
  • Maintained a 99 percent in-service rate for 342 vehicles
  • Led the State in Road Scholar/Road Master graduates
  • Received a $16,000 dividend from the State Insurance Fund for safe operations
  • 50 percent of Leadership ACHD graduates have been promoted or taken new positions within ACHD
  • Maintained our overhead at 6.5 percent
  • Improved fiscal transparency by publishing ACHD’s five most current audited financial statements on the website
  • Commuteride removed 12,476,182 vehicle miles form the roads, and reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 9,794 tons
  • Implemented “Red Before Ped” flashing yellow arrow change—enhancing pedestrian safety
  • Processed 1,429 Development Applications with an average 21 day turn around

ACHD and the talented staff were also the recipients of many awards in 2019, including:

  • 2019 COMPASS Leadership in Motion Awards for Leadership in Government, Ada County and Leadership in Practice, Professional category
  • 2019 ITD Excellence in Transportation Awards for the Kootenai Concept Project and the Cloverdale Emergency Bridge Project
  • 2019 Idaho Planning Association Planning Tool Award for ACHD’s Community Programs process
  • 2019 Idaho Smart Growth Award for the Kootenai Street Traffic Calming Study
  • 2019 Outstanding Budget Award for the 11th year in a row
  • 2019 ISSA Fellow Award
